Ukrainian Weather Alert: Prepare for Rain, Snow, and Strong Winds
Mark your calendars, Ukraine. According to the latest forecast by Ukraine’s Hydrometeorological Center, our western regions will experience light rain showers on the afternoon of January 2nd. Rest of the country can expect clear skies.
Starting from the night of January 2nd, a blanket of fog will drape over the southern regions. As for winds, they’ll be blowing southwesterly at 7-12 meters per second, with gusts reaching up to 15-20 meters per second in western, northern, and central districts. Temperatures will range from a chilly 1-3°C at night to a more bearable 7-9°C during the day in the capital, Kyiv.
Elsewhere in the country, wind speeds will vary, with the highest gusts (up to 25-30 meters per second) expected in the Carpathian Mountains. Nighttime temperatures will fluctuate between 3°C of warmth to a frosty -2°C, with daytime highs reaching up to a comfortable 10°C, and even 13°C in Crimea.
However, the weather is expected to take a turn for the worse on Friday, January 3rd. A mix of snow and rain is forecasted for all regions except the south, courtesy of a northern system. Nighttime temperatures could drop as low as -3°C, but will rise to a mild 2°C during the day. Central regions and Transcarpathia might even see temperatures reaching 5°C.
Road safety will be a concern on January 3rd, particularly in western and northern regions where ice patches are likely. Motorists should exercise caution. In the meantime, Kyiv residents can expect a mix of moderate and light snow showers, along with slippery road conditions.
For those heading to the Ukrainian mountains this weekend, be prepared for heavy snowfall and temperatures ranging from -6°C to -11°C.
