Updated: Fatal Crash claims life in La Plata, another passenger injured
A tragic traffic accident occurred late Saturday night in La Plata, resulting in the death of a 51-year-old driver. The incident, which is currently under investigation, involved a Fiat UNO that collided with a concrete bus stop located on Avenue 44 and 211.
The driver lost his life on impact, while his two companions, also in the vehicle, were rushed to the hospital. One passenger was transported "conscious and stable" to the Hospital Dr. Alejandro Korn, while the other received immediate medical assistance at the scene.
Emergency services, including local firefighters and police from the 15th commissariat, responded swiftly to the incident. The scene was secured to facilitate the work of forensic investigators from the La Plata Police Scientific Unit.
Investigations will determine the cause of the driver’s loss of control that led to the fatal collision with the bus stop. Authorities have classified the incident as "culpable homicide" and it will be investigated by the 10th Judicial Unit of La Plata.
This grim event comes on the heels of another tragic traffic accident in La Plata, which claimed the lives of a 42-year-old woman and her two daughters, aged 3 and 10. The accident occurred on Route 11 while the family was traveling at a speed of approximately 160 km/h. The father and another child were severely injured and remain hospitalized. The father, 42, is fighting for his life at the Dolores Municipality Hospital San Roque, while the 8-year-old boy was transferred to the Hospital de Niños in La Plata, where he underwent surgery for multiple fractures, including those in his tibia, femur, hip, forearm, and ankle.
The local community is left mourning once again as traffic incidents continue to take a heavy toll on the city and its residents. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations to prevent such tragic accidents.
