Momentum Calls Out Tisza Party Leader: Who’s Leading Local Branches Matters
Momentum’s Eastern Hungary regional leader and Debrecen politician, Szabó Bence, has taken to Facebook to caution Magyar Péter, the leader of the Tisza Party, about the selection of his party’s local branch leaders. In a post, Szabó highlighted the curious case of Bihari-Horváth László, who has held several roles in opposition to the ruling Fidesz party, only to now serve as a leader of the Tisza Party’s local branches in Hajdú-Bihar county.
In 2023, Bihari-Horváth was actively pursuing a museum manager position under the Fidesz-led Debrecen city leadership. The following year, he turned against Fidesz, running as an opposition candidate in Hajdúszoboszló, a move that ultimately led to a Fidesz win in the region. Now, he is organizing the Tisza Party’s ‘islands’ in Hajdú-Bihar, accusing Momentum of being ‘quasi-opposition’.
Szabó, however, points to Bihari-Horváth’s past, suggesting that the new Tisza Party leader should account for his own history before casting stones. "Momentum has been fighting the Orbán regime in Debrecen and across the county for years," Szabó stated, claiming that Bihari-Horváth is not the only local leader who has switched sides. He also hinted at further revelations to come, adding that the Momentum Facebook page had shared his post.
In the 2024 local elections, Bihari-Horváth himself stood as an independent candidate in Hajdúszoboszló’s first single-member district, narrowly losing to the incumbent Fidesz candidate, Kocsis Róbert, by just 34 votes.
