Bulgarian Party ‘Democratic Barceloneta’ (DPS) Leave European ‘Renew Europe‘ Group and Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE)

In a surprising turn of events, Bulgarian political party Democratic Barceloneta (DPS) has announced its decision to leave the European ‘Renew Europe’ group and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). This announcement was made following the party’s national conference and the election of Delian Peevski as the movement’s sole leader.

Upon notification, European deputies Tanner Cabillow and Elena Yoncheva will ebenfalls their membership in the ‘Renew Europe’ Europa in the European Parliament. This decision marks the end of DPS’s association with ALDE, a group that DPS leader Delian Peevski accused of drifting away from the daily concerns of European citizens and focusing instead on policies benefiting specific groups and interests.

In a letter sent to ALDE, Peevski expressed disappointment with what he perceived as a lack of response from the European liberals regarding corruption allegations and abuse of power in Bulgaria. He specifically highlighted cases involving businessmen Jeihan Ibraimov, Kiril Petkov, Ahmed Dogan, and even members of other liberal-aligned parties, with ALDE either tolerating or turning a blind eye to suspected links with Russia.

The DPS leader further stated that the party’s patience had worn thin, and it was time to prioritize the well-being of citizens and traditional family values. Consequently, DPS announced its official dissociation from ALDE, ALDE’s European Parliament group ‘Renew Europe’, the Liberal International, and all other related liberal organizations.
