Successful Free Eye and Speech Screening for Kids: A Day of Learning and Fun in Cagliari and Oristano
Article:
CAGLIARI AND ORISTANO, Italy — A successful free eye and speech screening for children was held on Sunday, December 15, organized by the commissions of the Logopedists and Orthoptists of the Order of Technicians, Sanitarians, and Rehabilitation Professionals (TSRM and PSTRP) of Cagliari and Oristano. The event, designed for children of preschool and school age, offered an opportunity to explore the intricacies of vision and language, identify potential difficulties, and provide parents with detailed reports and practical advice.
The initiative stood out for its inclusive approach, transforming a healthcare intervention into an engaging experience. Activities were carefully crafted to be understandable and enjoyable, making the children feel like active participants and reducing the anxiety often associated with health screenings. Each child received a courage diploma and fun items like pens and balloons to celebrate the day and encourage learning about health through play.
Veronica Marroccu, President of the Logopedists’ Commission, shared, "We wanted to create an initiative that was both useful and welcoming, making children feel at ease. Early logopedic intervention has a significant impact on a child’s learning and well-being, and we’re proud to have offered this valuable service to families in our area."
Elena Corda, President of the Orthoptists’ Commission, added, "Visual prevention is crucial for ensuring children’s harmonious development. Our goal was to make this moment a positive one, where children felt involved and comfortable. The smiles on their faces and the gratitude from parents confirmed the value of our efforts."
Antonio Attanasio, President of the TSRM and PSTRP Order of Cagliari and Oristano, concluded, "Events like this are at the heart of our institutional role: promoting health, supporting prevention, and strengthening our bond with the community. The professionalism, passion, and attention shown by our commissions contribute to building an Order image that not only gets recognized but also gets appreciated. I’m proud to work with such motivated professionals and see initiatives that put the needs of the population, especially our youngest members, at the forefront."
