Article:
In a somber turn of events, CNN Indonesia reports that renowned Indonesian comedian and former politician, Nurul Qomar, has passed away. The news comes following Qomar’s battle with colorectal cancer, a disease he fought in 2022 and was declared cancer-free. However, it relapsed in late 2023.
DetikPop confirmed the sad news with fellow comedian and Qomar’s colleague, Jarwo Kwat, who stated, "Yes, it’s true (Qomar has passed away), this evening."
Qomar was initially re-admitted to the hospital in late December 2024 due to his cancer relapse. In a statement shared on social media, Qomar’s family expressed their heartache and Qomar’s unyielding spirit throughout his treatment.
"Abah Qomar is facing a health trial again. The cancer that he bravely fought before has returned," they wrote. "Unfortunately, during the 8th round of chemotherapy, Abah’s condition required more intense care and he had to be hospitalized. This news is devastating for us as a family."
Despite the grim prognosis, Qomar’s family remains hopeful. "However, seeing Abah’s relentless spirit, we are committed to staying strong and optimistic as we support him through this tough time."
Indonesia’s comedy scene mourns the loss of one of its pioneers, with Qomar being a founding member of the popular comedy group Empat Sekawan in the early 2000s. His contributions to television and film are extensive, including roles in hit shows and movies like ‘Saras 008’, ‘Samson Dan Dahlia’, and ‘Benyamin Biang Kerok’.
Qomar was first diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer in September 2021 and underwent extensive chemotherapy. After 11 sessions, he was declared cancer-free in 2022. His passing is a significant loss for the Indonesian entertainment industry.
