Local Politician Sentenced for Sexual Relationship with Minor
A local politician in a municipality on the east coast of Norway has been sentenced to 100 hours of community service and ordered to pay NOK 40,000 in compensation for engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor. Skaug also noted that the man had resigned from his party positions last fall, before the party became aware of the legal case.
"This is a serious matter that has resulted in a conviction. It’s serious that a Conservative Party member has been convicted of this kind of offense. It’s important in such a situation to consider that there are people involved on both sides, and to ensure that they are taken care of in the best possible way," Skaug said.
The man’s relationship with the girl was first revealed on social media, where he openly discussed it. The girl’s father testified in the Oslo District Court that they had found naked photos, videos of sexual acts, and sexually charged language in the messages between his 14-year-old daughter and the 20-year-old politician.
However, the girl’s father also testified that at that time, his daughter was in a very vulnerable phase, and they were afraid that reporting the relationship would only damage their relationship further. They were primarily concerned with not losing their daughter.
