Breaking News: Extensive Search Continues for Missing 13-Year-Old Boy with Down Syndrome in Bulgarian Village
The southeastern Bulgarian village of Konare is still grappling with the mystery of 13-year-old Nikolai‘s disappearance, now in its 2nd week. Despite extensive efforts, including a helicopter search today, no traces of the missing teenager have been found.
"I regret to inform that despite the helicopter’s four-hour search over Konare and the entire municipality, there’s been no sign of Nikolai," said Kancio Papazov, Mayor of Kامنare. The Mayor pledged that the full-scale search will continue, regardless of weather conditions, stating, "We won’t stop until Nikolai is found."
The search for Nikolai, who has Down syndrome, began minutes after his disappearance on December 17. Since then, police, gendarmerie, and numerous volunteers have combed the area daily, employing drones, thermal cameras, and tracking dogs. The planned involvement of a border police helicopter was delayed due to poor weather conditions.
Minister of Internal Affairs, Atanas Ilkov, reassured the public, "We won’t give up on finding this child. Police are pursuing all possible leads, with no single version given priority."
This severe case leaves the community in K oznare awaiting further developments, hoping for a swift and safe resolution.
