Breaking News: Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Surabaya Claims One Life
In a series of tragic events, a fatal hit-and-run crash occurred in two locations within Surabaya Timur, Pakuwon City and Jalan Kenjeran, on Monday evening, December 23, 2024. One person lost their life in the incident.
The prime suspect is a 38-year-old man from Surabaya, identified by the initials SU, who was driving a black Mercy car. According to police information, SU hit a motorcyclist in the Pakuwon City area and then fled the scene, leading to another accident on Jalan Kenjeran.
Upon arrival at Jalan Kenjeran, SU struck three more cars, causing one of them to plunge into the river. The remaining two vehicles sustained rear-end damage.
Polsek Mulyorejo’s Chief Commissioner, Kompol Aspul Bakti, confirmed the initial hit-and-run incident. "Yes, a hit-and-run accident occurred. The first accident happened in the Pakuwon area, followed by another accident [at Jalan Kenjeran]," he said.
SU was eventually apprehended by police after attempting to flee into a nearby factory. He was handed over to police for further investigation. The driver and other victims involved were promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
The incident caused significant traffic congestion on Jalan Kenjeran, as onlookers and recovery vehicles crowded the scene. The police continue to investigate the matter, and more details will be provided as they become available.
