MYKOLAIV, Ukraine — A Russian drone strike in Mykolaiv early Friday, December 29, has caused a fire on the roof of an apartment building, according to regional officials. The attack was carried out using ‘Shahed’ drones, which have been increasingly employed by Russian forces.

Initial reports indicate that the fire is ongoing, with no immediate information on injuries. Emergency services have been deployed to the scene. The regional administration chief announced the incident in his Telegram channel, stressing that updates will follow as the situation unfolds.

UPDATE: Fire Extinguished, No casualties

At 02:27 local time, the regional administration head reported that the fire had been successfully extinguished. In a subsequent update, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevych, provided more details about the damage. While a part of the building’s roof was damaged and windows were shattered, there were no significant structural damages reported. Utility services are currently working at the site, and the surrounding area is being inspected.
