A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 27-year-old mechanic in East York earlier this week.

Toronto police announced on Saturday that Pratik Parajuli Thapa has been charged with second-degree murder. The charges relate to a fatal stabbing that occurred Wednesday night in the area of Gamble and Donlands Avenues.
Officers responded to reports of an altercation at the back of a low-rise residential building shortly after 9:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Ahmed Hassan Asif suffering from stab wounds.
Life-saving measures were attempted, but Asif was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have also charged Thapa with robbery.
According to police, the incident does not appear to be random. Detective-Sergeant Sajeev Nair described Asif as a “hard-working young man” who was “particularly much loved by his family and his nieces.”
Asif was not a resident of Toronto, but lived elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The reason for his presence in East York on Wednesday night has not been disclosed.
