First Case of Mpox Detected in Kosovo: Public Health Authority Confirms

In an unprecedented health alert, Kosovo’s Public Health Institute has reported the detection of the first-ever case of monkeypox (Mpox) in the country. The patient is a 30-year-old male who recently returned from a trip to an undisclosed Western African nation.

The institute revealed that the man was admitted to a local hospital on December 24, exhibitingSymptoms of fever, chills, and skin lesions on his face and hands. Despite his condition, the patient’s status is said to be stable, as reported by Reuters on Friday, December 27.

Health authorities have swiftly tracked down all individuals who had contact with the patient and issued guidelines for prevention and infection control measures. This proactive response aims to mitigate any potential outbreak in the region.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Mpox outbreak a public health emergency of international concern since late November. The global health body sounded the alarm in August when a new form of Mpox started spreading from the Democratic Republic of Congo to neighboring countries.

Typically, monkeypox is a mild infection, characterized by symptoms such as fever, headache, and skin lesions. With this latest development in Kosovo, local health authorities remain vigilant in monitoring and managing the situation.
