Update: Thursday, December 26th – 10:30 AM

In light of severe weather forecasts, public safety agency Varsom.no urges inhabitants to stay vigilant and follow a few key precautions. With weather conditions set to worsen, it’s crucial to keep flexible and plan ahead.

Essential Precautions on orange alert:

  • Secure loose items outdoors.
  • Avoid exposed areas.
  • Allocate extra time for transportation and driving.
  • Reconsider if your journey is essential.

Steady Increase in Storm Force:

  • Troms: Notable wind escalation expected from 1 PM today, with sustained gusts reaching 33-40 m/s from the south-west and west, expected to bring full to severe gales at the coast.
  • Øst-Finnmark: Wind speed here will peak earlier, maxing out at similar gusts, but gradually dropping off later in the day.

Additional Storm Front Arrives:

A separate storm cell forming between the Faroe Islands and Nordland is slated to reach Nordland and Troms on the second day of Christmas. However, this storm is expected to pass swiftly.

Uncertainty and Constant Updates:

While the path and intensity of the incoming storm remain uncertain, in the worst-case scenario, lusty west winds at the level of a hurricane, with gusts up to 50 m/s, are possible. Due to this uncertainty, the warning will be updated continuously to ensure the public remains informed.

Stay safe and plan ahead to navigate this potentially harsh weather event.
