Five Men Convicted for Role in Amsterdam Anti-Semitic Violence

In an unforgettable trial, a Dutch court convicted five men for their involvement in anti-Semitic attacks that occurred in Amsterdam in November. The Amsterdam District Court found the defendants guilty of various offenses, ranging from assaults on supporters of the Tel Aviv soccer team "Maccabi" to inciting violence on social media platforms.

The harshest sentence was imposed on one defendant, who received six months in prison for publicly assaulting multiple individuals. Another defendant was sentenced to two months, while two others received one-month prison terms.

However, the sentencing of a 22-year-old defendant named M., who was charged with attempted murder, was delayed pending the outcome of a psychiatric evaluation. M.’s lawyer argued for leniency, noting his client was born and raised in the Gaza Strip, describing it as a "war zone."

With this verdict, six more cases are set to be heard in closed sessions. Three of these defendants are minors.

On November 8, anti-Israel groups attacked supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv following a Europa League match between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi. The violence left five people hospitalized and another 20 with minor injuries.
