Latvian Hockey Federation Expands Goaltender Development Through KIVI Program
The Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) has concluded the fourth iteration of its “KIVI goaltender program,” an initiative established in memory of late NHL goaltender Matīss Kivlenieks. In partnership with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the program provided 30 children under the age of 10 with specialized training across three Latvian cities: Tukums, Riga, and Daugavpils. By supplying full equipment and professional coaching, the federation aims to lower the barrier to entry for one of the sport’s most specialized positions.
Training sessions were directed by Edgars Lūsiņš, the current goaltender coach for the Latvian national team. According to the LHF, Lūsiņš led a staff of assistants including Linards Feldbergs, Dilāns Birkāns, Deivs Rolovs, Henrijs Ančs, Ēriks Vītols, and Regnārs Capars. The two-day camps focused on fundamental skills both on and off the ice.
