The monumental sculpture was originally given to the city as a gift by Odorfer, who relocated to Fresno after meeting his wife, as noted by Andrea Morse, principal conservator at Sculpture Conservation Studio. The recent overhaul is part of a broader municipal effort that has already conserved 20 public art pieces, with seven more in Fresno planned for approval. The restoration work carries a price tag of $71,000, funded alongside an annual $100,000 budget dedicated specifically to public art upkeep, Mayor Dyer stated.
Protecting Fresno Public Art From Vandalism
To safeguard the newly repaired landmark against future damage, city officials have installed security cameras surrounding the reflecting pool site situated between Fresno City Hall and the Fresno County Superior Courthouse. According to Mayor Dyer, these surveillance measures form part of the ongoing “beatify Fresno 2.0” initiative, which also targets cleaner sidewalks, expanded murals, and increased electrical box art across downtown and the Tower District. Morse observed that community awareness directly correlates with better public stewardship, noting that residents frequently step up to protect pieces once they understand the history behind them.
