by Rachel Morgan News Editor

A renewed search for four-year-old Gus Lamont has failed to uncover additional evidence at Oak Park Station, near Yunta.

Speaking to reporters, Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke of the SA Police Major Crime division confirmed that while the search yielded no new findings, one of the boy’s grandparents remains a suspect in the investigation.

Investigation and Forensic Status

The latest operation at Oak Park Station marked the 11th search conducted since Gus disappeared on September 27. Seventeen SA Police workers participated in the effort, which failed to produce new clues.

forensic examination of items seized from the property in January has not yielded further lines of enquiry. Superintendent Fielke stated that no evidence from that testing will provide new directions to assist the taskforce.

Did You Know? SA Police have identified more than 500 people who were in or around Oak Park Station at the time Gus disappeared on September 27.

Regarding the nature of the disappearance, Fielke noted there is currently “no evidence to suggest that Gus has been abducted.”

Vetting of Persons of Interest

Taskforce members have been working through a list of more than 500 people, making individual contact with every person identified in the area. So far, all contacted individuals have been discounted from involvement in the disappearance.

As the list of potential witnesses narrows, the investigation may focus more intently on the remaining individuals who have not yet been cleared. The taskforce could also continue to process the hundreds of phone calls, emails, and letters received from the public.

Expert Insight: With forensic leads from January exhausted and the majority of the 500 identified people already discounted, the investigation may become increasingly concentrated on the remaining individuals on the list.

Gus’s grandparents, Josie and Shannon Murray, previously released a statement noting that the family has “cooperated fully with the investigation” and wishes to reunite Gus with his parents.
