Mahfud MD Clarifies on Hanura’s Birthday:Role in Corruption, Prohibited by Law
In his speech at Hanura Party’s 18th Anniversary celebration in Ancol, Jakarta Utara, Mahfud MD, a prominent political figure and chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), clarified the party’s role in combating corruption. He emphasized that the current applicable law does not permit any action that contributes to or abets corruption.
"According to the existing law, it is not permissible," Mahfud stated. He went on to explain that anyone who allows such actions would be in violation of Article 55 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP). Critics have interpreted this as a stern warning to political parties, including Hanura, to steer clear of any activities that could potentially be seen as condoning or participating in corruption.
