Headline: Two More Measles Cases Confirmed in Neamț County: Authorities Urge Vaccination
Subhead: Two teenage girls in Roman test positive for measles, highlighting the importance of vaccination.
Article:
In a worrying development, the Public Health Directorate (DSP) of Neamț County has confirmed two more cases of measles, both involving teenage girls from the city of Roman. This brings the total number of measles cases in the county to three in the past month, the first such occurrence in three years.
The two girls, aged 14 and 15, were hospitalized at the Municipal Emergency Hospital in Roman due to measles symptoms but were later discharged with a positive prognosis. DSP Neamț has conducted an epidemiological investigation to trace direct contacts and notify family doctors to implement preventive measures.
Last week, the first measles case in three years was reported in Neamț County, involving a 3-year-old child from Roman. The recent outbreak has raised concerns about the county’s vaccination rates, which have been declining steadily since 2020. The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine coverage has dropped from over 83% in 2020 to 49.31% last year.
"Only one of the girls had a complete MMR vaccine schedule," said DSP Neamț in a press release sent to AGERPRES. "We urge parents to ensure their children are vaccinated to protect them and prevent further spread of the disease."
Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to serious complications, especially in unvaccinated individuals. The MMR vaccine is safe and effective, providing long-lasting immunity against measles, mumps, and rubella.
The DSP Neamț has advised anyone who suspects they may have measles to stay at home and contact their healthcare provider immediately. For more information about measles and vaccination, visit the DSP Neamț website or contact your local healthcare provider.
