The Determination Process
The decision was reached during the Sidang Isbat held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Auditorium HM Rasjidi within the Ministry of Religious Affairs office in Jakarta Pusat. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar led the proceedings to finalize the dates.
The determination process followed three specific stages. It began with the Kemenag Hisab Rukyat Team presenting the position of the hilal, followed by a closed-door determination meeting with representatives from Islamic organizations and relevant agencies and concluded with a public press conference.

Hidayat Nur Wahid, a member of Commission VIII of the DPR RI, expressed gratitude over the consensus reached by all participating Islamic organizations. He noted that the agreement was achieved despite the presence of various methods, including rukyat conducted by sworn Indonesian citizens.
“Tentu saja ini menggambarkan betapa Bhineka Tunggal Ika selalu juga bisa kita wujudkan,” Hidayat stated, noting that diversity in organizational backgrounds and methods of determining the Hijri calendar can still result in unity as one nation and one people.
Hidayat further emphasized the DPR RI’s appreciation for the input and aspirations provided by experts, the public, and Islamic organizations, which contributed to the final announcement made by the Minister of Religious Affairs.
Call for Spiritual Reflection
Following the determination of 1 Zulhijah, Hidayat urged the Muslim community to maximize the first 10 days of the month for performing good deeds. This call aligns with the hadiths of the Prophet.
He encouraged citizens to focus on strengthening kinship, performing acts of kindness for the nation and the community, and drawing closer to the divine during this period.
