According to the driver, staying out on track severely compromised his tire life toward the end of the grand prix. Hamilton noted that while he felt hard tires would have been the correct choice, the team opted against bringing him into the pit lane.
“I felt like we probably should have been on the hard tire, but we also needed to overtake people because we were further back than we should have been,” Hamilton explained. “And then I thought they were going to call us into the box and they didn’t, so I simply ran out of tires.”
