Local Pennant Sides Fall Short in Campaspe Weekend Campaign
The local bowls scene saw several teams conclude their Campaspe Playing Area weekend pennant campaigns recently, with Lockington experiencing a tough finish. Two Lockington sides were eliminated in the semi-finals, bringing their season to an end.
Division Three Disappointment for Lockington
Lockington’s division three team faced a challenging match against Echuca in the elimination semi-final. Despite finishing fourth, they were unable to secure a win, falling across all three rinks with a final score of 16-73 to 0-48.
Steve Pavone came closest to a victory for Lockington, losing a close contest by just three shots, 18-21, to Greg Clymo of Echuca. John Fisher also position up a fight, going down 17-22 to Trev Rickard. But, the final rink proved decisive, with Tony Deenan leading Echuca to a comprehensive 30-13 win over Kym Ray.
Division Five Ends in Narrow Defeat
Lockington’s division five team also faced elimination, losing to Deniliquin White 12-40 to 2-35. The contest was tightly fought, with Kalvan Stout’s rink, supported by Peter Eagan, Denise Gilmore and Les Brereton, managing a 20-14 win for Lockington.
Despite this success, Lloyd Ritchie’s Deniliquin squad secured a 26-15 victory in the other rink against Rodney Fielder, ultimately ending Lockington’s season.
Grand Final Awaits in Division One
In division one, the competition continues, with Echuca set to face the winner of the upcoming match between Moama and Stanhope in the grand final.
