In a serendipitous turn of events, a man in Thailand discovered a dazzling blue gem while taking a stroll after a rainstorm. The find, a stunning sapphire weighing in at 394 karats, has left the gemstone world awestruck.
The unidentified man was walking in Mahasarakham, northeastern Thailand, when he noticed something shimmering beneath the wet earth. Intrigued, he began to dig and unearthed a massive sapphire, laterestimated to be worth around $100,000.
“We never expected to find a gem of that size,” said Captain Thawat Phiphitphol of the Mahasarakham police. “It’s the largest blue sapphire ever found in our province.”
Gemologists have confirmed the stone’s authenticity, describing it as a rare and valuable specimen. The gem is now in the hands of local authorities, who are deciding on its next steps, including potentially selling it to investors or using it to benefit the local community.
