In a dramatic turn of events, meteorologist Petr Yanukov has announced a drastic shift in Bulgaria’s weather pattern. Starting tomorrow evening, Northwestern Bulgaria will experience rainfall transitioning into snowfall, with potential froze drizzle along the Vidin-Monastir line by nightfall.
Motorists are advised to monitor temperature fluctuations and exercise caution. "Foggy conditions with visibility under 100 meters are expected on Friday, posing significant risks to drivers," Yanukov warned in an interview with Bulgaria ON AIR.
On Saturday, Western and Northern Bulgaria will witness temperatures soaring above the seasonal average, accumulating a snow cover of 1-2 cm. Meanwhile, Sunday brings rain and snow showers, predominantly in the southern regions. Rising to 15 cm in the mountains, the snow cover may hinder mobility, especially in Southwestern Bulgaria.
"Saturday seems ideal for high-altitude tourism," Yanukov suggested, highlighting that mountaintop temperatures are surprisingly mild for January.
Next Week’s Outlook:
The upcoming week retains chilly temperatures, ranging from -1°C to 5°C. Countrywide snowfall from Monday to Tuesday, coupled with 20+ cm snow accumulation and 2-3 cm along the Black Sea coast, is forecasted. By Wednesday, Dobrudzha sees a temperature surge, kicking off another cold spell.
Yanukov expects decreased visibility due to snowfall and heightened humidity throughout the week. However, he anticipates cleaner air in Sofia as wind currents sweep in to clear the lower atmospheric layers from Wednesday and Thursday.
