Unusual Robbery Attempt at Adult Toy Store in Mexico City Draws Amusement, Otaku Themed Products Among Stolen Goods
An unusual incident unfolded at an establishment in Benito Juárez, Mexico City, when a man identified as Noé Bartolo entered a sex shop armed with a knife, intending to steal various products. The thief, who was later arrested, managed to snatch several items, including adult toys and Otaku-themed products, before being caught by the authorities.
According to journalist Carlos Jiménez, the robber threatened the store employee and made off with several items before being apprehended by officers from the Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC CDMX). However, Bartolo attempted to escape and was eventually arrested while crying, his mission unsuccessful.
Among the seized items were boxes containing products heavily influenced by anime culture. One product, titled in Japanese, featured a moe-style animated girl on its design, a characteristic common in anime and Otaku-themed products. The unusual event sparked conversations on social media, with users discussing the rise in popularity of anime and hentai influences in specific niches, such as adult toys.
While this market is well-established in countries like Japan, its introduction in Mexico has been more recent. The demand for these products, featuring appealing designs and anime character illustrations, has gained popularity among Otaku culture followers.
Social media users reacted humorously to the incident, with comments ranging from Making light of Bartolo’s situation to expressing disappointment that he didn’t get to use his newly acquired items. Others speculated about his motives and the products he chose to steal, with some suggesting he was simply a member of the Otaku community recognizing the value of the products.
This incident highlights the growing influence of anime and hentai on specialized markets, with adult toy products becoming increasingly popular among Otaku followers. As the culture gains traction in Mexico, so too does the demand for related products, even in more niche markets.
