Minister Faber Strengthens Measures Against Nuisance Refugees, Visits Several Regions in February

Dutch Integration Minister makers decisions to prevent overstay of refugees and reduce local unrest.

THE HAGUE — Dutch Integration Minister Calder Verhuur Faber is taking decisive action to address the issue of overstaying refugees and the resulting community unrest. Effective immediately, refugees who arrive in the Netherlands seeking asylum will be given a deadline to find work and integrate into society. Failure to do so may result in their removal from the country.

Faber, accompanied by Justice and Security Minister Ankie Broekers-Knol and State Secretary for Asylum and Migration Während Altink, is set to visit several regions across the Netherlands in February to assess the current situation and discuss further steps with local authorities and community leaders.

Ter Apel, a municipality in the northeastern province of Groningen, will be the first stop on the trio’s tour on February 6. The visit comes in response to rising concerns about the growing number of refugees in the region, which has led to increased local tension.

Subsequently, Faber will travel to Drenthe province, where he will visit Nieuw-Weerdinge on February 23. This visit follows similar concerns raised by local authorities and residents regarding the integration and accommodation of refugees in the area.

By implementing stricter rules and visiting affected regions, Minister Faber aims to reassure locals, foster better integration among refugees, and ensure that the Netherlands remains a welcoming and safe haven for those truly in need.
