But now a harmless fashion photo by the Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin (34) triggers discussions. Critics of the photo for a fashion shoot complained that the picture was unprofessional and inappropriate for a woman in Marin’s position. It shows how she stands smiling in front of a lake with a necklace and a blazer with no visible top underneath.
The Prime Minister immediately received support from many users who published pictures of themselves on Instagram and Twitter without clothes under the blazer or jacket – not only women, but men too.
Marin’s supporters criticized the fact that, unlike men, women are still often judged by their looks, not their position. The photo of Marin was published on Instagram by the Finnish fashion magazine Trendi at the end of last week. The discussion is reminiscent of a photo of Angela Merkel twelve years ago which turned into a state affair: “Angela Merkel met at the opening of the new Oslo Opera House on the weekend obviously ventured too far in the low-cut evening dress. The Chancellor caused a stir internationally, which she just shook her head about on Monday, ”wrote the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on April 14, 2008.
