Democratic Activist Network Mobilizes 100 Lawyers to Support PDIP Secretary-General

JAKARTA – The Democratic Struggle Volunteers (Repdem), the activist wing of Indonesia’s ruling Party of Democratic Indonesia of Struggle (PDIP), has assigned 100 lawyers to support PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto. Abraham Leo Tanditasik, Repdem’s Secretary-General, made the announcement on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

"When our party is attacked by antidemocratic forces, Repdem will not stand idly by," Abe stated. "We’ve inventoried our advocates and assigned them to join PDI Perjuangan’s legal team, supporting Mr. Hasto Kristiyanto."

Repdem understands the controversy surrounding PDI Perjuangan’s Secretary-General’s statements defending democratic principles. "As the primary party official responsible for party operations, he must uphold democratic principles," Abe said. "If that’s challenged, we’re against it. We’ve been through this before, 31 years ago, and we won’t retreat now."

When faced with legal manipulation, Repdem plans to deploy these 100 lawyers to strengthen Hasto Kristiyanto’s defense team. "We won’t let them exploit the law, as they did against Megawati Sukarnoputri in the past," Abe declared. "Repdem stands firmly with Ibu Megawati."
