Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance Route Changed Due to Timber Fire

The Pebble Beach Company modified the route for the annual Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance to avoid the ongoing Timber Fire in Big Sur, according to organizers. The traditional motoring event, scheduled for Thursday, altered its path to protect participants and spectators while keeping clear of emergency operations in the region.

Route Changes and Safety Measures for the Tour d’Elegance

Organizers announced the route modification on Tuesday, shifting the path so it remains entirely within the Pebble Beach and Monterey area, according to the Pebble Beach Company. The event ordinarily starts in Pebble Beach, travels along 17-Mile Drive past The Lodge, and heads down the Big Sur coastline before returning. According to Pebble Beach Concours organizers, the decision was reached after working closely with the California Highway Patrol, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, and CAL FIRE to monitor wildfire conditions.

“This decision was made to protect spectators and participants and give first responders space to conduct their essential work,” the Pebble Beach Company stated. Pebble Beach Concours Chairman Sandra Button added that organizers moved quickly so as not to impact firefighting efforts in any way, noting that community safety remains the highest priority during the wildfire response.

Schedule and Event Details for Participants

Despite the geographic adjustment, the core schedule for the touring vehicles remains largely intact. According to event organizers, participating cars will gather at 7 a.m. on Portola Road in Pebble Beach near Concours Village. Vehicles are scheduled to depart at 9:30 a.m. along the revised local course, eventually returning to the start line at noon.

Added to the concours lineup in 1998, the annual tour demonstrates that historic collector cars are functional and enjoyable on the road, rather than static museum pieces. Participating vehicles on the modified route continue to compete for the coveted Elegance in Motion trophy, which will be awarded later during the Concours d’Elegance.
