Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will not face an additional suspension from the NFL following his recent 30-day jail sentence for a probation violation, according to Nfltraderumors. Rapoport reported that because Rice already served a six-game suspension for his involvement in a multi-car crash in 2024, the league considers him to have already been disciplined for the underlying infraction.

First of all, I want to go to the disciplinary part,
Rapoport said on Inside Training Camp Live. Because for Rashee Rice, he was already disciplined essentially for what he was in jail for. That was a probation violation. He had already been disciplined for that infraction, had already missed time for that. So, I wouldn’t expect, from my understanding, anything new there disciplinary-wise.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also echoed a similar sentiment earlier in the offseason.
Background on Jail Sentence and Probation Violation
Rice’s 30-day county jail stint stemmed from a probation violation after he tested positive for marijuana, specifically tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), on May 19. That probation originated from his high-speed traffic accident in 2024. The incarceration caused the third-year wideout to miss Kansas City’s organized team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp.
The jail sentence coincided with Rice’s recovery from offseason knee surgery. One week prior to beginning his sentence, Rice underwent a procedure at Parkland Hospital to remove inflamed scar tissue and debris from his right knee. The facility allowed Rice to continue receiving treatment on his knee while he served his time behind bars.
It was a learning experience and a reality check,
Rice told reporters. Don’t focus on the past. Focus on what’s going on now. I’m doing [well] mentally. It was mentally tough. They gave me ways to communicate with my teammates still and as well as my athletic trainer. Besides the hard times in there, I kept my mind right watching shows and as much [of comedian] Kevin Hart as I could to laugh.
Off-Field Scrutiny and Contract Year Stakes
In addition to the probation matter, Rice faced scrutiny earlier in the offseason regarding a domestic violence dispute involving his former partner and mother of his children, Dacoda Jones. However, that case was closed after the NFL concluded he did not violate the personal conduct policy. A statement posted on X by Adam Schefter from attorney Sean noted that the league found Rice has not engaged in conduct that violates the personal conduct policy
and that the investigation was closed with no discipline issued.
Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Rice is motivated as he prepares for the upcoming campaign. Selected by the Chiefs in the second round with the No. 55 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft out of SMU—where he was named first-team All-AAC in 2022—Rice is playing out a four-year, $6,495,207 rookie deal that included a $1,723,787 signing bonus. During the 2025 season, Rice appeared in eight games for Kansas City, recording 53 receptions on 78 targets for 571 yards and five touchdowns.
