CROTONE — Farmacisti of Crotone and Province have come together to establish "Farmacisti per la Collettività APS," a not-for-profit association with a mission to revitalize the pharmacy profession and bolster the local community. As announced in an official statement signed by the association’s board, led by President Oreste Gualtieri, the organization seeks to foster a pharmacy model grounded in professionalism, empathy, expertise, and respect for all citizens, with a focus on supporting the most vulnerable.
The association’s board comprises Leonardo Achille (vice-president), Angela Trichilo (secretary), Miriam Ciriaco (treasurer), and Benedetta Siciliani (council member), and includes pharmacists with diverse backgrounds – from pharmacist owners and employees to hospital and independent pharmacists. United by a shared vision, they aim to transform pharmacies into accessible and welcoming spaces where citizens can find solutions to their health needs and receive human and professional support.
Farmacisti per la Collettività will engage in activities promoting health prevention and combating the misuse of medicines. Moreover, it supports the Mimosa Project of "Farmaciste Insieme," a campaign advocating for women victims of domestic violence. The association aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, particularly SDG 3, which strives to ensure health and well-being for all ages. Their initiatives focus on placing individuals at the core and guaranteeing access to quality care, prevention, and support in managing one’s health.
From a professional standpoint, the association seeks to:
- Enhance the pharmacist’s role as a comprehensive health consultant, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to guide patients through tailored care paths.
- Encourage continuous education to address emerging sector challenges and maintain high-quality service to citizens.
- Raise awareness about prevention and health education through informative campaigns on common health issues, vaccinations, mindful medication use, and chronic disease prevention.
- Promote the accessibility of pharmaceutical services, especially in peripheral and underserved areas, ensuring all citizens have access to care.
- Listen to community needs and collaborate with local healthcare authorities to build a more inclusive and attentive territorial healthcare system.
The association invites all pharmacists in Crotone and Province – and beyond – who embrace their values to join them in shaping a more inclusive, modern, and community-focused healthcare system. Together, they can make a difference and ensure the profession truly represents the interests of all pharmacists while addressing the evolving challenges of their sector.
