According to CP24, the crash occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. as Robertson was driving southbound on the Don Valley Parkway between Eglinton and Don Mills. He was traveling at roughly 100 (km/h) when his Tiguan SUV was struck in the rear-left corner by another vehicle, causing his car to spin out across lanes, hit a van and knock it over, before finally coming to a stop after deploying its airbags.
Robertson told CP24 that police friends later explained to him that the point of impact on his rear bumper was precisely where they hit them when they want to spin them out if they’re chasing somebody. Despite the severity of the wreck, which left his vehicle with front-end damage and deployed airbags, Robertson walked away without physical injuries.

Rather than heading home or waiting idly for emergency services to clear the scene entirely, Robertson proceeded with his original morning itinerary. According to CP24, he was on his way to CP24’s then home at 299 Queen St. to surprise CP24 Breakfast host Steve Anthony on his final show.
