Headline: Two Tourists Safely Rescued after Getting Stuck near Fjellheisen in Tromsø
Article:
In an evening operation that unfolded north-east of Fjellheisen, two distressed tourists were successfully rescued after one of them became trapped in the snow. The rescue mission, initiated around 21:00 local time, saw a joint effort from local authorities, Norsk Folkehjelp, and Norwegian rescue dogs.
"The incident is now concluded," confirmed Robin Åsheim Lindberg, operations leader at Troms Police District, to NRK at 21:57. "Both individuals have safely made their way down and are in good condition. We had volunteers on the ground to verify this."
The rescue mission, which involved a team of 11 personnel from Norsk Folkehjelp and a helper from Norwegian rescue dogs, took Fjellheisen up to access the area near Storaksla where the tourists were stranded. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the area, with recent months seeing an increase in rescue operations due to heavier snowfall and increasing adventurous tourist activity.
Snow slide risks were high in the affected area, with Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) issuing a warning for continuing weak snow layers and snow accumulations, advising substantial caution.
Throughout the year, the region around Fjellheisen has witnessed several rescue operations, souventREENhed by frequent tourists and skiers suffering accidents.
