Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Shots Down by Russian Air Defense in Kazakhstan: NATO Calls for Full Investigation

Azerbaijan Airlines plane was reportedly hit by a Russian anti-aircraft missile before it crashed in Kazakhstan, killing all 38 passengers on board. Four sources from Azerbaijan’s authorities told Reuters this information, which was later confirmed by local news agency BTA.

The Embraer 190 aircraft went down near the Kazakh city of Aктау after being reportedly diverted from its course into Russian airspace due to the use of air-defense systems against Ukrainian drones.

NATO has urged a full investigation into the cause of the crash. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and those affected by flight J28243 of Azerbaijan Airlines," NATO spokesperson Fara Hatala said on social media platform "Twitter". "We wish a speedy recovery to those injured and call for a full investigation."
