Seniors Locked Out of Their Apartment After 600,000 Euro Investment

An apartment project in Südlingen, Kreis Trier-Saarburg, has left a Luxembourg couple unable to move into their retirement home despite an investment of around 600,000 euros. The property features a flooded balcony, damp walls, peeling baseboards, and a total lack of electricity, heating, or a sewer connection.

Insolvency and Legal Action in Südlingen

The couple originally planned to move into the apartment by New Year’s Eve 2023, but nearly three years later, the property remains an unfinished construction site. Having sold their house in Luxemburg years prior to enjoy a lower-maintenance lifestyle and warmer winter months, the seniors are now renting a house at the Upper Moselle. According to the man, they must monitor their spending much more closely due to ongoing rental costs.

The builder for the Südlingen development became insolvent in April. The project was slated to include 11 residential units, with nine already sold according to the insolvency administrator. Because the construction remains unfinished, buyers cannot move in. The couple also reported losing more than 20,000 euros transferred in 2024 for sanitary facilities, parquet flooring, and terrace planks that never arrived.
