Title: Massive Delays at Schiphol Due to Damaged Overhead Line; Buses Deployed to Ease Pressure
Travel chaos ensued at Schiphol Airport yesterday as a faulty overhead power line caused extensive train disruptions, lasting until at least 2:00 AM the following night. Passengers were advised to seek alternative transportation options.
In a significant blow to rail travel, two out of the four tracks serving Schiphol Airport were thrown out of service due to a damaged overhead line. The exact cause of the malfunction remains unknown, according to ProRail, the Dutch infrastructure manager. The incident led to severe train delays and cancellations, with no services running at all for several hours during the peak evening travel period.
Reinforcements in the form of buses were deployed by the GVB, Amsterdam’s public transport operator, to help ease the pressure on the overwhelmed railway system. The NS, the Dutch Railways, urged passengers to consider alternative modes of transportation while the situation persisted.
This is not the only disruption caused by faulty overhead lines in recent days. Earlier, train services between Den Haag Centraal and Leiden, as well as between Rotterdam Centraal and Breda, were disrupted due to similar issues. However, normal service has since been resumed on these routes.
As of the latest updates, the disruptions at Schiphol are expected to continue until at least 2:00 AM tomorrow morning, with minimal services running. Passengers are advised to check the latest travel information and plan their journeys accordingly.
