Breaking News: Woman’s Bag Seized at LAX for Containing 82 Fireworks, Knives, and More
A shocking discovery was made at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) when a woman’s carry-on bag was flagged during a security check on December 15. Upon inspection, authorities found a trove of restricted items, including 82 fireworks, three knives, two replica firearms, and a canister of pepper spray.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at LAX expressed concern over the large quantity of prohibited items found in a single carry-on. "The discovery of such a significant number of restricted items in one bag is deeply concerning," said the TSA’s top official at the airport in a press statement.
The woman, who was headed to Philadelphia, was promptly detained by the police while the explosives team at the airport seized the fireworks. Although consumer fireworks, like those found in the bag, are less powerful than those used in professional displays, they are still strictly prohibited in carry-on luggage.
In the U.S., knives, replica firearms, and small amounts of pepper spray are allowed in checked bags for domestic flights. However, it is crucial for all travelers to double-check the contents of their bags before approaching the airport to avoid such incidents.
