Over 2.9 Million Syrian Refugees in Turkey, a Million of Them Born in the Country

Turkey hosts approximately 2.9 million Syrian refugees, including around one million born on its soil, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya’s interview with NTV. However, these Turkish-born Syrian children are not granted citizenship and instead receive temporary protection status, mirroring their parents’ refugee status.

Despite their birthplace, Syrian refugees in Turkey face growing hostility. Both the ruling party and the opposition have called for their repatriation, underscoring the complex challenge Turkey faces in integrating these young refugees.
