Ukraine | Today's latest from Al Jazeera”>Russian Shelling Damages Agro Firm Admin Building, Wounds Man in Odesa Region

ODESA REGION, Ukraine — A targeted strike by Russian forces has inflicted damage on the administrative building of an agro-firm in Ukraine’s Odesa region. The attack injured a 29-year-old man, who is currently under medical care for medium-level wounds, according to the Odesa Regional Administration.

The latest incident comes amid a series of persistent shellings targeting Odesa and the surrounding region by Russian forces since the start of their full-scale invasion. Reported weapons in use include, but are not limited to, drones, ballistic missiles, and air-to-surface missiles.

Prior to the most recent incidents, on 31 December, Russian-led forces launched heavy shelling throughout Ukraine, which could be felt in Kyiv, Sumy Oblast’s Shostka, and even Odesa, according to reports from local sources and state media. Just days ago, explosions had also been detected in Odesa during air raid alerts, adding to mounting evidence of growing tensions in and around the regional capital.

History has shown instances of such aerial assaults throughout 2022; notably, towards the end of November, Moscow-directed forces inflicted substantial damage through drone attacks. Then, an even earlier series of strikes against the region and its infrastructure hit the area as early as early October, targeting not only logistic and transportation installations but also people.

The war-torn state continues to assess and respond, all while advocating for international attention and support amid this ongoing war of attrition.

"Russia’s Biggest Weekly Drone Launch Decline in Months"

Ukraine Reports Sharp Decrease in Russian Drone Strikes; 370 Drones Launched in Latest Week

President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that Russia has employed over 370 strike drones against Ukraine in the last seven days. In a weekly update on Russian attacks, the president noted that this number represents a significant drop from the average of 500-600 drones recorded since he began reporting such figures on September 1.

"This past week, we observed the lowest number of drone attacks since we started releasing these statistics," Zelensky said. "While this decrease is a uitlity player, we’re not looking to celebrate prematurely. Our cities and communities continue to face constant Russian assaults, even during the Christmas night."

According to Zelensky, the past week saw Russia employing approximately 280 guided aviation bombs and 80 various types of missiles, in addition to the drones.

Since the beginning of September, Zelensky has been delivering weekly updates on the number of drones, cruise missiles, and guided bombs Russia has launched against Ukraine. This transparency serves as a grim tally of the ongoing conflict and highlights Russia’s persistent aggression despite international condemnation and sanctions.

Even with the decrease in drone attacks, Ukraine remains vigilant, emphasizing the importance of international support in its defense against Russian aggression. As the world watches the situation unfold, the global community is called upon to stand with Ukraine in its time of need.

"Massive Shelling of Ukraine Exposes Putin’s Lack of Desire for Peace" – 1+1, TSN News – Politics

Breaking News: Russian Dictator’s Christmas Offensive Exposes Apathetic Stance Towards Peace

The new year began ominously as Russia launched a massive strike on Ukraine‘s energy sector on Christmas morning, once again demonstrating Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s single-minded determination to eliminate Ukraine.

Dutch Foreign Minister, Caspas Weldkamp, minced no words in condemning the attack. "In the Christmas dawn, Russia chose to commence yet another massive assault on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. This malicious timing clearly indicates that Putin has no interest in peace; his sole obsession is the annihilation of Ukraine."

Weldkamp went on to affirm the Netherlands‘ commitment to assisting Ukraine until its victory. "In 2025, we continue our support, bringing this cruel aggression to an end."

Previously, USSpecial Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, also responded to the Christmas offensive, while Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Oleg Sibiga, linked the attack to Putin’s defiance of calls for a Christmas ceasefire.

The escalation underscores Russia’s continued violation of international law, and the urgency of global efforts to support Ukraine and uphold its sovereignty.

"The Next Phase: Possible Timing of Russia’s Massive Strikes on Ukraine"

Russia Continues to Amass Missiles, With Aid from North Korea

Brace for another major strike soon, possibly around New Year’s, as Russia prepares for two massive attacks.

According to Alexander Musyienko, head of the Center for Military-Legal Research, Russia could launch one massive strike near New Year’s or even on New Year’s Eve, with a second attack following within a week.

Musyienko notes that Russia’s military actions are tied to political goals, with an eye on the upcoming inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. This suggests a high frequency of Russian attacks on Ukraine leading up to and following the inauguration.

"(Russia will) use all its capabilities," Musyienko said. "Then they could take a pause and resume strikes at the end of January or beginning of February."

Signs of preparation for major strikes include increased reconnaissance activity and movements of aircraft, suggesting the transport of missiles.

Earlier, military expert Vladyslav Seleznev predicted that Russia’s morning missile attack on December 25 would not be the last this year. He estimated that Russia has amassed around 1,300 missiles and continues to produce more.

Headline: Breaking: Moldovan President Reports Russian Missile Infringing on Its Airspace

Article:

In a significant development, Moldovan President Maia Sandu has reported that Russian airspace violation took place early Wednesday, December 25. Sandu took to Twitter, stating, "While our countries celebrate Christmas, Kremlin chooses destruction—targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and violating Moldova’s airspace with a missile, actions that clearly violate international law. Moldova condemns these acts and stands in full solidarity with Ukraine."

The incident occurred as Russia launched another large-scale rocket attack on Ukraine. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, more than 70 rockets and over 100 drones were fired, with Ukrainian air defense managing to shoot down more than 50 rockets and a significant portion of the drones.

Earlier reports from Ukrainian Air Force indicated a cruise missile heading towards Chernivtsi from Moldovan territory. Monitoring groups allege the Russian missile traversed 140 kilometers across Moldova and Romania, entering from the area near Yampol in Vinnytsia Oblast (near the Moldovan border) and exiting near Darabani in Romania ( near the Moldovan border). Romanian authorities have yet to confirm these reports.

This incident underscores the ongoing tensions in the region and the potential risks posed by the conflict in Ukraine to its neighbors. President Sandu’s statement sends a clear message of support for Ukraine and a strong condemnation of Russia’s disregard for international law.

Ukraine’s Air Force has emerged victorious in the latest Russian aerial onslaught, successfully defending its skies against a massive assault on Christmas night. In an intense battle that spanned throughout the night, Ukrainian forces tracked, engaged, and neutralized a staggering 184 enemy aerial threats launched by Russia.

Defensive Showcase

The Christmas night offensive was launched by Russia with a barrage of various weapon systems, including:

  • 2 ballistic missiles (KN-23) launched from the Voronezh region of Russia

The Ukrainian Air Force responded swiftly and efficiently, successfully engaging and destroying a total of 113 enemy aerial targets:

  • 55 cruise missiles (X-101, X-55, "Kaliber")

Despite the significant number of neutralized threats, some Russian projectiles managed to strike critical Ukrainian infrastructure. Regrettably, reports indicate losses due to this Russian attack.

Targets included strategic energy facilities across various regions in Ukraine, such as Kharkiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Zaporizhzhia.
