Haredi protesters descended on the IDF’s Central Command headquarters in Jerusalem on Tuesday, blocking the base entrance in a direct challenge to mandatory conscription for ultra-Orthodox men. Online footage captures the intensity of the standoff: protesters screaming at soldiers and occupying the gateway to halt personnel from entering the installation.
Chaos at the Central Command Gates
The blockade was a physical manifestation of the growing tension over conscription laws. Videos shared online show the scene unfolding as protesters obstructed the gate, forcing a confrontation. Police officers worked to disperse the crowd while soldiers from the base attempted to manually remove the individuals blocking the way.
Gridlock on Bar Ilan and the Light Rail
Tuesday’s blockade was not an isolated incident, but the latest in a string of disruptions across Jerusalem. On Monday, Haredi men brought traffic to a standstill on Bar Ilan Street and attempted to storm the Jerusalem light rail before police intervention reopened the thoroughfare.

Violence at the Construction Compounds
The unrest turned physical on Sunday. Israel Police reported the arrest of one individual following a physical dispute with construction workers at a light rail work compound. According to a statement from the Israel Police, rioters entered the compound, damaged infrastructure, and attempted to block traffic routes.
The escalation prompted a formal response. The police statement noted that an officer declared a public disorder incident and ordered the rioters to evacuate the route.
Police and Military Posture
Neither the military nor the police have issued official statements regarding the Tuesday blockade.
