KLM Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Torp; Debris Found on Gardermoen Runway
OSLO — A routine inspection of the runway at Oslo Gardermoen Airport revealed debris from a KLM flight, according to Avinor’s communications advisor, Helene Wattanapradit Jensen. The incident, reported by VG, adds another layer to the recent safety concerns surrounding Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Nødlanding på Torp
On Saturday, a KLM flight carrying 182 passengers experienced a hydraulic failure en route from Oslo to Amsterdam. The plane made an emergency landing at Sandefjord Torp Airport. Miraculously, no injuries were reported. However, the unexpected landing led to the temporary closure of the airport, stranding approximately 5,000 passengers and diverting numerous flights to Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
Investigation Continues
Avinor confirmed finding debris from the crashed KLM flight on the Gardermoen runway. KLM spokesman Jochem Van de Laarschot declined to comment on the findings but assures that the investigation is ongoing.
Boeing 737-800 Safety Concerns
The incident comes on the heels of a fatal crash involving the same type of aircraft at Muan International Airport in South Korea, which claimed 179 lives. The following day, another Boeing 737-800 experienced landing difficulties. Despite these events, Laarschot sees no connection between the incidents at this stage.
"Currently, there’s no reason to believe the incidents are linked," Laarschot told VG. "The investigation is ongoing, and it’s too early to provide further insights."
As the investigation unfolds, aviation authorities and KLM continue to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. Regular inspections and thorough maintenance procedures are in place to mitigate potential risks associated with air travel.
