Die-hard Trump Supporters Urge President to Intervene as Yoon Faces KPK Arrest

by Chief Editor January 3, 2025

Title: Supporters Unfurl South Korean and U.S. Flags as President Yoon Faces Corruption Probe

In a display of solidarity and hope, supporters of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol waved the flags of South Korea and the United States, barricading themselves to hinder his arrest ordered by the anti-corruption body.

JAKARTA, CNN Indonesia — Supporters of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, have been seen carrying both the South Korean and American flags, standing guard to prevent his detention by the anti-corruption agency.

Among the supporters was Ahn Young Mi, a 60-year-old woman, who stood firmly near the police barricade, holding the flags of both nations. Ahn believed these flags represented the close relationship between South Korea and the United States.

"I hope that the U.S., or President-elect Donald Trump, would come to save Yoon Suk Yeol," she said, as reported by Korea Herald, on Friday (3/1).

Other supporters passed out mini American and South Korean flags among the crowd. One supporter explained, "Displaying both flags signifies our alliance and unity." Several orators also chanted, "Trump manse!" indicating the hope for U.S. intervention in the matter.

The support for conservative groups is intertwined with Korea’s history and its relationship with the United States. During the Korean War (1950-1953), the U.S. played a pivotal role in assisting South Korea to resist the spread of communism from North Korea. For conservative supporters, the U.S. is seen as a champion of freedom.

Despite this historical context, Yoon is currently under investigation for declaring martial law on December 3 and is accused of insurrection and abuse of power. The Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) has attempted to summon Yoon three times without success. After Yoon failed to appear, the CIO requested a warrant for his arrest.

Earlier today, CIO officers attempted to arrest Yoon at his residence, but were met with thousands of riot police and supporters. After negotiations, the attempted arrest was called off due to safety concerns. The CIO has stated they will retry the arrest next week, on January 6.

Breaking: South Korean Anti-Corruption Commission Attempts to Arrest President Yoon Suk Yeol

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — In a dramatic turn of events, the presidential security forces in South Korea (Korea Selatan) stood their ground and prevented commissioners from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) from entering the presidential residence in Seoul. The ACRC was attempting to apprehend President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was recently impeached, on charges of violating the constitution through his declaration of martial law.

According to reports from Korean Broadcasting System World (KBS World), several vehicles belonging to high-ranking ACRC officials were seen parked outside the presidential residence gates since 8:00 AM local time. However, they were denied entry by South Korean presidential security personnel.

ACRC officials allegedly presented a warrant for Yoon’s arrest to the head of the presidential security force, but their request was declined. The security personnel maintained that they were merely carrying out their duty to protect the president in accordance with the law.

Earlier, approximately 2,700 police officers were deployed around the presidential residence to maintain order and prevent clashes between protestors both against and in support of President Yoon. Yoon’s legal team has since filed an appeal against the court’s arrest warrant, arguing that it contravenes both the constitution and criminal procedures.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Breaking News: South Korean Police Deployed to Enforce Presidential Arrest Warrant

SEOUL, South Korea — Around 2,700 police officers have been deployed to the residential area of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in Seoul today, Friday (3/1), to attempt to serve an arrest warrant. A total of 135 police buses have also been stationed in the vicinity.

The Asia-Pacific region is on edge as South Korean investigators from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO) arrived at Yoon’s residence to take him into custody. This unprecedented move marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political crisis sparked by Yoon’s declaration of a rare state of emergency last December.

Police have breached the heavily guarded presidential residence, with senior prosecutor Lee Dae-hwan among those granted access. CIO officials have confirmed the initiation of the arrest process, stating, "The execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol has begun."

Surrounding streets are lined with police buses and hundreds of officers, while Yoon remains holed up in his residence, vowing to resist the arrest attempt. It remains unclear whether the presidential security forces will comply with the warrant.

If apprehended, Yoon will be transported to the CIO office in nearby Gwacheon for questioning regarding his decision to impose the state of emergency, which has caused widespread protests and political backlash.

This sensitive situation underscores the escalating tension in South Korea, as the country’s leader faces potential legal consequences for his controversial actions. The international community watches with bated breath as this development unfolds, holding significant implications for South Korea’s political landscape and regional stability.

South Korean Investigators Raid President Yoon Suk Yeol’s Residence in Connection with Arrest

Breaking News: Seoul Police Raid President Yoon Suk Yeol’s Residence

In a move that has shaken the political landscape of South Korea, investigators descended on the official residence of President Yoon Suk Yeol on Friday morning local time. The intensive operation is part of an escalated probe into the former president’s controversial declaration of martial law.

Mirrors of Power

The scene outside the presidential residence was a stark reflection of the country’s palpable divide. Vehicles ferrying investigators cruised through the streets, accompanied by a heavy police presence that stretched across scores of buses and hundreds of uniformed officers. Meanwhile, supporters of the embattled president staged a defiant stance outside their leader’s home.

Historical Precedent

If arrested, Yoon Suk Yeol would be the first South Korean president to face such a situation. The development comes after lawmakers stripped him of his duties earlier this week, paving the way for Wednesday’s parliamentary vote that approved his impeachment.

The Martial Law Declaration

Yoon Suk Yeol, who was elected in 2022, invoked martial law on Dec. 3, 2023, citing a potential national emergency. The unprecedented move, however, sparked fierce criticism andmass protests, ultimately leading to his impeachment allegations of abuse of power and neglect of duty.

Resistance and Confrontation

Yoon, who has been holed up in the presidential residence since Monday when a court approved the arrest warrant, has vowed to fight the authorities’ attempt to question him about the martial law declaration. His supporters engaged in heated altercations with anti-Yoon protesters outside the compound on Thursday, raising fears of further unrest and prompting the deployment of thousands of police officers on Friday.

The Question of Compliance

It remains unclear whether the Presidential Security Service, which continues to protect Yoon as the incumbent head of state, will comply with the investigators’ arrest order. In the past, members of Yoon’s security team had obstructed police attempts to enter the presidential residence.

The drama unfolded amidst a tense political climate, with the ruling People Power Party and the opposition Democratic Party engaged in a bitter power struggle in the wake of Yoon’s impeachment. With the outcome of the developments待定, the nation braces itself for a potentially turbulent period ahead.

South Korean President Persists in Resisting Military’s Emergency Law Enforcement Efforts

President Yoon Suk Yeol Vows to Fight Arrest Warrant as Term Nears End

Jakarta – Ousted President of South Korea (Korsel), Yoon Suk Yeol, continues to defy an arrest warrant over his brief martial law declaration. Yoon has sworn to resist the authorities‘ attempt to interrogate him.

In a statement released to supporters, Yoon doubled down on his decision, asserting that the country faces internal and external threats to its sovereignty. His lawyer, Yoon Kab-keun, confirmed the statement’s authenticity.

"I swear to fight alongside you until the end to protect this nation," Yoon said, addressing hundreds of supporters in a live YouTube broadcast on Wednesday night.

Yoon’s legal team has challenged the arrest warrant, arguing that it is "unlawful and invalid." However, the head of the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO), Oh Dong-woon, warned that anyone obstructing Yoon’s arrest could face legal consequences.

Historically, Korean law enforcement has struggled to execute arrest warrants against lawmakers, with incidents in 2000 and 2004 resulting in seven-day standoffs by party members and supporters.

Opposition lawmakers swiftly condemned Yoon’s statement, with Democratic Party spokesperson Jo Seoung-lae calling it "delusional" and accusing him of inciting unrest.

South Korean Prosecutors Seek Arrest Warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Facing Arrest Warrant After Military Emergency Declaration

SEOUL – Prosecutors have requested an arrest warrant for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, following his declaration of a military emergency that has sent shockwaves through the nation. This marks the first attempt in the country’s constitutional history to physically detain a sitting president.

"Joint Investigation Headquarters has requested an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol from the Seoul Western District Court," a statement from the investigation team revealed, as reported by AFP on Monday (30/12/2024).

Yoon, previously removed from his presidential duties by the parliament, is facing a potential life sentence to death penalty for treason charges. The constitutional court is currently deliberating on his impeachment.

Yoon’s drastic move has plunged South Korea into its worst political crisis in decades. The turmoil deepened last week when his successor, Han Duck-soo, was also impeached by the parliament for failing to sign a bill for the investigation of Yoon.

Yoon, a former prosecutor, has been summoned for questioning three times but has failed to appear. A 100-page prosecutors’ report alleges that Yoon authorized the military to fire upon entering the parliament during the state of emergency.

The political instability in South Korea continues to unfold, with no clear resolution in sight.

"Revealed: South Korean President Authorizes Lethal Force During Martial Law"

by Chief Editor December 28, 2024

Headline:
South Korean President Allows Military to Use Force to Enter Parliament Amid Failed Emergency Measures Attempt

Article:

In a disturbing turn of events, the ousted President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, authorized the military to use force, including firing their weapons, to enter the National Assembly if necessary. This revelation was uncovered in a prosecutor’s report viewed by the AFP news agency on Saturday, December 28.

The 10-page summary of the indictment against former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, made available to the media, also disclosed that Yoon had pledged to declare martial law three times if required, as early as December 3. Yoon was impeached by the legislature earlier this month and is currently under investigation for his attempts to topple the civilian government, leading the country into political chaos and ultimately resulting in his removal from office.

Yoon’s lawyer, Yoon Kab-keun, rejected the prosecutors’ report, stating that it was "a one-sided report that does not reflect the objective facts or common sense."

On December 3, as lawmakers rushed to the parliament to reject Yoon’s martial law declaration, heavily armed troops stormed the building, climbing fences, breaking windows, and landing via helicopter. According to the indictment report, Yoon instructed the commander of the defense headquarters in Seoul, Lee Jin-woo, that soldiers could open fire if necessary to enter the National Assembly.

"Haven’t you entered yet? What are you doing? Break in and drag them out, even if you have to shoot," Yoon reportedly told Lee, according to the prosecution’s report.

Parliament Overrules President in Historic First for South Korea

(Or, if you prefer a shorter version:)

Historic Override: South Korea’s Parliament Defeats Acting President

Breaking News: South Korean Parliament Impeaches Acting President Han Duck-soo

In a dramatic turn of events, the South Korean Parliament (National Assembly) voted to impeach Acting President Han Duck-soo during a special session held on Friday, December 27, 2024. This move adds another layer of political turmoil to the ongoing crisis sparked by President Yoon Suk Yeol’s shock declaration of martial law on December 3.

Acting President Han took office following the parliamentary impeachment of President Yoon. However, opposition lawmakers pushed for Han’s removal, accusing him of dragging his feet on proceeding with Yoon’s impeachment trial and refusing to appoint three new justices to the Constitutional Court.

"Today, our Democratic Party has recalled Prime Minister Han Duck-soo according to the people’s will," announced Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung. The impeachment motion accused Han of deliberately stalling the investigation into the martial law declaration and openly defying the appointment of the new justices.

The vote to impeach Han was met with fierce protest from ruling party lawmakers. Scenes of chaos unfolded in the Assembly as lawmakers objected to the parliamentary speaker’s ruling that a simple majority (151 votes) was sufficient to proceed with the impeachment. Speaker Woo Won-shik confirmed the vote, with 192 lawmakers voting in favor of impeachment.

With Han removed from office, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Choi Sang-mok will assume the role of acting president pending the installation of a new president.

South Korea finds itself in unprecedented territory, having removed two heads of state in the span of less than two weeks. This latest impeachment also marks a first in the country’s history – the removal of an acting president.

Opposition Files_impeachment Motion Against South Korean Acting President, Here’s Why

by Chief Editor December 26, 2024

BREAKING: South Korean Opposition Seeks President Han‘s Impeachment Over Delay in Yoon’s Removal

Seoul, South Korea – The main opposition party in South Korea has officially initiated an impeachment motion against the acting president, Han Duck Soo, following his refusal to endorse the appointment of new judges for the Constitutional Court of South Korea (MK), blocking the completion of former president Yoon Suk Yeol‘s impeachment process.

In a development reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Thursday, December 26, 2024, the opposition party moved to impeach Han after he declined to approve the appointment of three new justices to the MK, leaving the crucial nine-member bench short-handed. This delay has effectively halted the process aimed at finalizing Yoon’s impeachment by the National Assembly’s earlier vote on December 14, 2024.

South Korea has been grappling with a political crisis since Yoon was politically neutralized after the legislature voted to impeach him. In an unexpected turn of events, Yoon had declared a state of emergency and invoked martial law early last month.

Democratic Party lawmaker Park Sung Joon confirmed, "We have filed the motion… and will be submitting it to the plenary session today," at a press conference outside the National Assembly compound. He added, "We will put it to a vote tomorrow."

This development further intensifies the political turmoil in South Korea, with the opposition now targeting Han, who stepped in as acting president after Yoon was temporarily removed from office.
