In a period where he refrained from using iPads in the classroom, he focused on improving his students’ reading and writing skills. The children, who initially struggled with literacy, showed significant improvement under Finstad’s guidance. In fact, his class won the school’s reading competition just before the winter holidays.
Parents of 17 students in Finstad’s class sent a letter to the school, endorsing his teaching methods and expressing their support for him. They credited Finstad for helping their children improve, with some students showing a remarkable progression from not being able to write their own names to becoming proficient readers and writers.
Concerns about Work Environment and Leadership
Finstad, along with eight other teachers, had raised concerns about the work environment and leadership issues at Trosterud Barneskole in the past. However, he has chosen not to comment further on the matter, respecting the ongoing process.
Morten Relbo, the Grundskoledirektør (Director of Primary Education) in Oslo’s Utdanningsetaten (Education Department), stated that the municipality cannot comment on personnel matters, as these are confidential issues between the employer and employees.
