Heavy Snowfall and Traffic Woes on Petrohan Mountain Pass during Christmas

Hundreds of motorists found themselves in a wintery predicament this Christmas, as the Petrohan mountain pass witnessed significant snowfall, causing numerous delays and minor incidents. Social media platforms were flooded with images and videos of uncleared roads and vehicles stuck in the snow.

According to Engineer Vălchev, director of Montana’s Regional Road Management, the situation was critical. "There’s nearly 70 cm of snow on the pass, and it hasn’t stopped falling for three days," he shared in an interview with "Zdraveyno, Balgaria" on Nova Television. "The road is constantly being blocked. While incidents have been minor so far, drivers are urged to exercise caution, not to speed, and drive vehicles prepared for winter conditions."

With the snowfall showing no signs of letting up and no fallen trees reported, road management teams have been working tirelessly since morning, with six snowplows and a grader clearing the path. However, the pass remains closed to vehicles over 12 tons.

The Christmas getaway, usually a time of joy and celebration, turned into a challenging commute for many this year. Drivers are advised to stay patient and vigilant as they navigate the treacherous conditions.
