Drone Fly-By Restricted Area in Oslo Leads to Arrests of Two Suspects

Oslo police have arrested two individuals suspected of flying a drone within the restricted zone in Oslo’s city center on Thursday afternoon.

The two suspects, both Chinese nationals in their late thirties, were apprehended by the operations leader, Bjarne Pedersen. He confirmed the arrests to NTB news agency just after 5 PM, stating, "Both are in their late thirties and are Chinese citizens."

This is not an isolated incident. There have been several arrests of drone pilots in Oslo recently. On Christmas Day, two Chinese drone pilots were arrested for flying within the forbidden zone. The motive behind their actions remains unknown.

On Boxing Day, two more Chinese drone pilots were arrested for flying in Oslo’s city center.

Pedersen could not confirm if the suspects arrested on Thursday are the same as those apprehended during the Christmas period, but he did reveal that police are investigating the matter.

The arrested individuals have been taken to a nearby police station, and their drone equipment has been seized. Pedersen noted that their intentions are still unclear, and further investigation will determine the appropriate course of action.

Previously, several drone pilots from non-Schengen countries have been expelled from Norway after flying illegally.
