Breaking News: Russia‘s New Year’s Eve Attack Leaves Ukrainian Civilian Dead
In a chilling display of disregard for human life, Russia launched a massive drone strike on Ukraine even as citizens were ringing in the New Year. The attack, involving 111 Shahed-type strike drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles, was aimed at causing maximum harm, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Russia showed once again that it doesn’t care about any international rules or norms," Zelensky said in a Telegram post. "It only seeks to cause pain and suffering to the Ukrainian people."
While the Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down the majority of the drones, some reached their targets, resulting in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage. Tragically, at least one person was killed, with more injuries and devastation reported.
The attack took place in the early hours of January 1, 2025, targeting multiple regions, including the capital city of Kyiv. Describing the scene, Zelensky said, "One hundred and eleven attack drones against our cities. Our air defense systems, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare systems managed to পর-sept most of them, but unfortunately, there were losses."
Zelensky expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and appreciation for all the emergency services, medical personnel, and armed forces who are tirelessly working to protect Ukrainian lives.
The latest attack underscores Russia’s unrelenting aggression and disregard for Ukrainian sovereignty. Despite the ongoing conflict, Zelensky urges the international community to stand with Ukraine and support its efforts to defend its territory and people.
