Ukraine‘s Winter Weather Outlook: Mild Temperatures and Minimal Snow Expected in 2025
The upcoming winter of 2025 in Ukraine is expected to be a warmer and drier affair, with temperatures fluctuating around the freezing point and snowfall remaining minimal, according to a representative of Ukraine’s Hydrometeorological Center, Nataliya Ptyha, in an interview with 24 Канал.
Ptyha explained that the trends we’ve seen so far in December, with temperatures dipping slightly below freezing at night and climbing back to positive digits during the day, are likely to continue throughout the winter. "We’re seeing more days with temperatures above the normal climate average, and cold spells are becoming shorter," she noted.
When it comes to snow, Ukrainians shouldn’t hold their breath. Due to climate change, the traditional snow season, marked by the formation and melting of the snow cover, has become a thing of the past. What we experience now are brief, patchy snowfalls that quickly disappear.
Ptyha also clarified that the end of December should remain dry, with no significant snowstorms or rainfall expected. She attributed this to a high-pressure system moving in from December 26 to 31, which will block any incoming atmospheric fronts and ensure stable, dry weather.
So, if you’re dreaming of a white Christmas or a frosty New Year, you might want to set your expectations lower. The winter of 2025 in Ukraine is likely to be more brown than white.
