Regione Puglia Boosts Healthcare Hiring: 2,500 New Jobs in 2025

Puglia is set to bolster its healthcare sector with an ambitious plan to create nearly 2,500 new jobs by 2025. Starting in the first months of 2025, the region will initiate 1,000 new hires, followed by an additional 1,500, according to a recent deliberation by the Regional Council.

This hiring surge is supported by a significant increase in the budget for personnel, amounting to €150 million. The Regional Health Department has meticulously evaluated available funds and prepared an integrated management strategy that encompasses various funding streams, including the regional healthcare fund, territorial assistance enhancement funds, and residual Covid-19 emergency funds.

Healthcare providers in Puglia can immediately begin recruitment processes for these 1,000 new positions, which will include roles for doctors, nurses, healthcare operators, and technical specialists. Additionally, they will be tasked with updating workforce plans to facilitate further hiring throughout 2025.

"This is a concrete and strategic response to the needs of our public healthcare system," declared Puglia’s President, Michele Emiliano. "Unlocking these hires allows us to overcome personnel shortages and fortify our regional healthcare services. The pandemic has underscored the paramount importance of public health. With careful resource management, we are now investing decisively to bolster our healthcare services, ensure Essential Levels of Assistance, and build a more modern, accessible, and community-focused healthcare network."

Echoing Emiliano’s sentiments, Regional Health Councilor Raffaele Piemontese added, "This plan is the culmination of months of intensive work and analysis of our regional healthcare system’s needs. These new hires are not just numbers; they represent the individuals who will stand alongside our citizens every day, working in our hospitals and public health facilities. Our hiring efforts will prioritize strengthening our workforce to reduce waiting lists and support the development of community health centers, hospital community services, and territorial operational centers, as well as domiciliary care. This is a strategic investment in the health of Puglia’s citizens and the future of our region."
