Title: Prabowo‘s Key Program: Not All Kids Get Milk in His Free Nutritious Meal Plan

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The free nutritious meal (Pangan Bergizi Gratis, PBG) program, a flagship project of the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration, has hit a snag. Dadan Hindayana, head of the National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN), has revealed that not all participating children will receive milk due to logistical challenges.
Logistical Nightmare in Non-Dairy Areas
Dadan explained that distributing milk in non-dairy farming regions poses logistical difficulties. As a result, the program will initially focus on areas with significant dairy production.
In areas where milk is unavailable, we can substitute with eggs and moringa leaves (daun kelor). Eggs provide protein, and moringa leaves can supply calcium. It’s not necessary to insist on milk in areas where logistical challenges exist. We can opt for eggs or moringa leaves instead. – Dadan Hindayana, BGN Head
Government’s Stance on Daun Kelor Substitution
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, muhaimin iskandar (Cak Imin), welcomed the proposal to include daun kelor in the program.
"That’s a good idea, we can use moringa leaves. But it’s crucial to involve local UMKM in the production and supply process," Cak Imin said during a visit to Ragunan, Jakarta Selatan, on Wednesday (25/12/2024).
However, Cak Imin noted that more simulations and coordination between the center and local governments are needed before finalizing the daun kelor substitution plan. He added that this is the BGN’s responsibility.
That’s still a work in progress, with simulations, central-local synchronization, and involvement of local communities. That’s the BGN’s jurisdiction. – muhaimin iskandar
