US Envoy Urges Venezuelans to Maintain Hope in 2025

Francisco Palmieri, the United States’ Charge d’Affaires in Colombia and Special Envoy to Venezuela, has encouraged Venezuelans not to lose hope in 2025, emphasizing that the voices of millions calling for peaceful political change were heard on July 28, 2024. In a video shared on social media, Palmieristated, "On July 28, a day few had thought possible, we heard the voices of more than 12 million Venezuelans calling for a peaceful change. We listened, and the world heard them too, despite the challenges that lie ahead."

Reflecting on 2024, Palmieri acknowledged the difficulties faced but also highlighted significant historical advances, underscoring the strength, unity, and resilience of the Venezuelan people echoing their sentiments.

The United States recognized Edmundo González as the president-elect of Venezuela after widespread protests following the July 28 elections. Despite Maduro‘s claims to the presidency, the opposition party’s submission of election results proved González’s victory.

Following the elections, thousands took to the streets, risking their safety to demand their rights be acknowledged. Palmieri praised their courage and reaffirmed the US’s commitment to supporting Venezuela, noting it as a steadfast sign of solidarity.

As the new year begins, Palmieri wishes all Venezuelans a year filled with hope and opportunities. In a recent tweet from the US Embassy in Venezuela (@usembassyve), they expressed, "Happy New Year 2025, Venezuela!"
